Civic Education Video Contest Winners Announcement!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the first annual Civic Education Student Video Contest!
The following entries were winners in their respective categories:

Grade Level: K-5

*AWARD RECOGNITION CEREMONY – at our Santa Clara School Board meeting on Wednesday, November 2.
The meeting will be held in the Board Room of the Santa Clara County Office of Education, 1290 Ridder Park Dr., San Jose 95131.

Contest Information

The SCCOE Civic Engagement PSA Video Contest is open for all students in Santa Clara County! We have three grade-level categories: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Students can enter as groups or individually. Winning entries will be chosen in each of the three grade level categories.

  • Developing confidence to be able to participate in civic life
  • Engaging in political processes
  • Assuming the roles, rights and responsibilities usually associated with citizenship in democratic systems
  • Being open, tolerant and responsible in exercising their rights and responsibilities
  • Civic knowledge means citizens:
    • Understand their political and civic context
    • Know their social and economic rights as well as their political and civil rights
    • Understand the roles, rights and responsibilities of citizenship

Students/teams will create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) video based on one of these two prompts:

  • What is Civic Engagement, and why is it important?
  • Create a PSA video that will motivate your peers, family and community members to take action
